Koen Nieman, MD

Koen Nieman is an associate professor in cardiovascular medicine and radiology at Stanford University. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, completed his PhD in cardiac CT and his clinical training in cardiology at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. He spent one year as a fellow at the cardiac CT/MR/PET program of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Until 2016 he led the cardiac CT and MR research at the Erasmus University Medical Center, and combined his research with clinical responsibilities at the intensive cardiac care unit. His research interests include the development and technical validation of new imaging technology and the validation of diagnostic strategies in clinical practice. He served as PI of several multicenter clinical effectiveness trials. Dr. Nieman has (co-)authored nearly 200 papers in the field of cardiac imaging, authored >10 book chapters and (co-)edited 3 books. He is an active member of several international societies, including the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and CT/Nuclear Section, and the Society of Cardiovascular CT.
